Hazara leader Tahir Khan’s son has been released after his abduction two days ago. Athar Khan was released on the night of June 10 after protests and demonstrations against his abduction were held in Quetta city. A social media campaign under the hashtag #FreeAtharHazara was also used to demand his instant release.

A status update from Hazara Siyasi Karkunan reads:

Ather Khan has just been released. However rest of the demands of Quetta Yakjehti Council has not been met.

The abduction came a day after Tahir Khan made a speech indicting the State of Pakistan and the security agencies in the ‘sectarian’ killings of the members of the Hazara community.
