PESHAWAR: The Peshawar police on Sunday arrested a man accused of stripping naked a 16-year-old girl in the Hashtnagri area of Peshawar.

SSP City Farooq Kokab said that the accused had left the city after the incident and lived in Rawalpindi, Hassan Abdal, Wah Cant and Mardan for short intervals. He said that he was arrested from Chamkani area after he returned Peshawar.

Police on Saturday claimed that they have been searching for the man who allegedly stripped naked a teenage girl in Peshawar’s Hashtnagri area. District Nazim Peshawar announced Rs100,000 for the police team.

The incident is said to have happened a week ago and was highlighted on social media. It has been claimed that a 16-year-old girl was paraded naked in Changarabad area.

Peshawar’s District Nazim Mohammad Asim Khan visited the victim’s family Friday night and asked the police to ensure arrest of the accused. On the other hand, SHO Wajid Shah of Shaheed Gulfat Hussain Police Station Saturday said that the incident had been blown out of proportion on the social media.

According to Shah, the 16-year-old girl was assaulted by a man who allegedly stripped her naked when she was near her home. The issue began after a fight between two families — the accused’s and the victim’s — who both filed a complaint at the police station, said Shah.

The man ran away when people of the area came to the girl’s rescue, the FIR, registered under Artice 354 A [assault or use of criminal force to woman and stripping her of her clothes], said.
