The family of 16 years old Hindu girl from a village in Tharparkar has said that she was abducted, forcibly converted to Islam and married off to a Muslim man.

According to the details as given in the conversion certificate, Ravita Meghwar was forced to convert to Islam earlier this month on Jun 6 and her name was changed to Gulnaz. Then she was married off to a Muslim man named Syed Nawaz Ali Shah the same day.

Satram Das Meghwar, the father of the girl, told PakVoices that he has lodged FIR nominating four people including Shah at a local police station in Nagarparkar under section 365-B which pertains to kidnapping to force a woman to marry against her free will.

The primary certificate of the girl mentions her age as born on July 14, 2001

The family has come up with the primary certificate of the girl according to which, Ravita was born on July 14, 2001, clearly establishing her in the teenage of 16.

However, the marriage registrar has put her age at 18 stating “approximately 18” in her marriage certificate.

On the other hand, the couple has filed a petition in Sindh High Court seeking protection from the Meghwar family.
