If someone wants to see ruins in Rahim Yar Khan, a city of South Punjab, you don’t have to go anywhere far because the stadium of Liaqat Pur city is no less than ruins. The roof, walls, windows and doors of the stadium are all broken down.
This sports stadium that was once the best available place for the youth to carry on their sports activities is now almost ruined.
The stadium was built upon area of 4 acres in 1998 at an expense of 28 lac. According to locals, the administration has not paid any attention towards the renovation of the stadium during past 19 years.
The roof and walls of the stadium are in such a state that young players are afraid to come here because the building can collapse anytime.
Salim is a young sportsman who comes here for practice. He said that this was the only stadium in the whole city where it is getting difficult to play adding “the stadium can fall down anytime and it can be dangerous for any player.”
When Pakvoices contacted the District Sports Officer Ashfaq Khan about the poor condition of the stadium, he said that the plan for the renovation and restoration to its original condition is ready.
He further added, “funds worth Rs. 4 crores have been released under annual development scheme and the renovation of the stadium will start in August.”
