Three-day Gwadar Book Fair kicked off in the port town on Wednesday under the auspices of RCD Council, Gwadar aiming at motivating youngsters and children to cultivate the habit of book reading.
The book fair was named after the late Abdul Hameed Gwadari, famous writer of more than a dozen books on literature and culture.
Discussions, poetry & musical shows, art exhibitions, theaters will feature during the three-day book fair. Along with books, around twenty stalls of culture, handicrafts and arts have been put on display. The launch of new books has also been planned.
Prominent writer Zahida Hina, secretary of the organization of development of Urdu Pakistan Fatima Hasan, managing director Oxford University press Aamna Syed, renowned politician and intellectual Dr Kahwar Khan, students and women participated in the book fair.
A video clip on the life history of Abdul Hameed Gwadari was screened at the event. Baloch artist, Umar Baloch, played the famous Balochi Suroz music to entertain the participants.
Nasir Rahim Sohrabi, president RCD council, speaking with Pak Voices said, “The book fair is an expression of educational, artistic and cultural aspects.” Adding,” The purpose is to attract people towards book reading along with the promotion of development in culture and arts.”
Sohrabi further said, “Renowned writers, poets and intellectuals are invited from across the country to be introduced among the youth of Gwadar.”
Zahida Hina, talking to Pak Voices said,” Holding a book fair of such a big level at Gwadar is really a positive initiative and I’m really delighted after looking at people’s interest in book reading,” adding that parents should motivate their children to read books.”
Fatima Hasan talking to PakVoices said,” Such a large number of participants is showing that book reading is getting fame in the region and with each passing year number of stalls is increasing.”
