Punjab government has fixed Rs. 200/- minimum support price of sugarcane to protect farmers’ rights as it was previously were fixed Rs. 100/ – 120/- per maund rate of sugarcane crop.

In a statement issued by Punjab Government, the Chief Minister of Punjab, Usman Buzdar said the crushing season will commence from 10 November, 2020 across South Punjab. However, in rest of the districts, the crushing will start from 15 November, 2020.

The farming of sugarcane has increased with every passing year in South Punjab and it has replaced cotton crop which was once Pakistan’s major crop and now it has been imported from overseas.

Farmers in South Punjab have adopted new method of sugarcane cultivation which takes less effort and water and gives more production.
