A video went viral on social media claiming that the newly elected minister of the opposition party was slapped during a ceremony. The video was widely shared by pro-PTI supporters. The name of this alleged minister was not mentioned.


On X (formerly Twitter), the video was shared here, here and here, on Facebook, the video was shared here and here gaining upwards of more than 200K views.

Fact Check:

Through utilization of reverse imaging techniques, it was determined that the shared video dates to April 2019 from Mohmand tribal region. According to reports, the video was also shared with false context back in 2019, attributing it with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) minister Sultan Muhammad Khan due to facial resemblance, but the claim was found to be invalid. We then found a news report by Al-Nahar explaining this incident did not feature a political leader. Quoting officials of the Prime Minister’s office, it said that the video showed Afghani refugees getting into a scuffle with locals in the Mohmand Tribal district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
