The water desalination plant in Gwadar port set up by the Chinese company has become operational with the supply of water to the city.
The plant has been installed by Chinese Overseas Port Holding which will supply 264,000 gallons of water daily to Gwadar city. The plant has been making saline water drinkable and it was inaugurated in January this year.
However, the plant has started supplying water from today. The water will be transported to the city via tankers.
Due to drought in Ankara dam, Gwadar has been facing water scarcity for the 5th time and the Public Health Department has been transporting water from Merani dam via tankers.
Chairman Senate while talking on the inaugural event of the plant said that this plant is the gift from China to people of Gwadar which will help in overcoming water crisis in Gwadar.
There is an agreement signed between the Chinese company and provincial government of Balochistan that company will charge 80 paisas per gallon.
Chinese Overseas Port Holding company Chairman said that we are working for the social sector of the city and we will continue doing it.
Chairman Gwadar port authority Mir Dostain Khan Jamaldini said that with the help of this plant, dependency on dams will decrease.
A local resident without revealing his name said that we pray that like other plants in past, this plant would not become dysfunction in a month or two.
